Frequently Asked Questions
Everything Brisbane homeowners, landlords and business owners ask us about air conditioning installation, repair, servicing and product selection. Can’t find your answer? Call +61 424 993 481 or Request a Quote.
1. Getting started & quoting
Do you charge for a quote?
No. Quotes for new air conditioning installations and system replacements in the Brisbane metro area are free and obligation-free. We can quote from photos and room measurements for straightforward wall split systems, or arrange a free on-site assessment for ducted, multi-head and commercial projects.
How quickly can you attend?
Most standard service and repair jobs across Brisbane are booked within 24–48 hours. During the summer peak (December–February) demand is high, so we recommend booking maintenance in spring. Emergency and priority call-outs are available — see our Emergency Air Conditioning Repair page.
What is your call-out or diagnostic fee?
A standard diagnostic call-out for the Brisbane metro area starts from $[AMOUNT] including GST, which covers travel, on-site fault diagnosis and a written recommendation. If you proceed with the repair, the fee is [credited toward / included in] the repair cost. Fees for outer suburbs, after-hours and weekend attendance are confirmed before booking — never a surprise on the invoice.
Do you service my suburb?
We cover Brisbane CBD, North, South, East and West Brisbane, plus Indooroopilly, Toowong, Chermside, Carindale, Sunnybank, Logan, Ipswich, Redlands and Moreton Bay. Check the Service Areas page for your suburb, or call us to confirm.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We hold a QBCC licence for electrical and refrigeration installation work and an ARCtick refrigerant handling licence issued by the Australian Refrigeration Council, and we carry public liability insurance. Any Australian business that installs or repairs air conditioning containing refrigerant gas must legally hold an ARCtick licence — always ask to see it.
2. Choosing the right system
What size (kW) air conditioner do I need?
As a Brisbane rule of thumb, allow roughly 0.15 kW of cooling capacity per square metre of floor area for a well-insulated room, then adjust for ceiling height, west-facing windows, insulation and how open the space is. Typical guide:
Room size | Typical capacity | Example use |
10–20 m² | 2.0–2.5 kW | Bedroom, study, nursery |
20–30 m² | 3.4–3.5 kW | Large bedroom, small living room |
30–45 m² | 4.2–5.0 kW | Living room, open lounge |
45–60 m² | 6.0–7.1 kW | Open-plan living/dining |
60–90 m² | 8.0–10.0 kW | Large open-plan or light commercial |
An undersized unit runs constantly and never gets comfortable; an oversized one short-cycles, wastes power and controls humidity poorly — which matters a lot in Brisbane’s subtropical summer. Use our capacity calculator or send us a floor plan and we’ll size it properly.
Split system, multi-head or ducted — which is best for my home?
A wall-mounted split system is the most cost-effective way to cool one room or an open-plan area. A multi-head split runs several indoor units from a single outdoor unit — ideal where outdoor space is limited or body-corporate rules restrict multiple condensers. Ducted air conditioning conditions the whole home from one hidden unit with zoning, giving the cleanest look and best whole-home comfort for the highest upfront cost. We’ll compare running costs and installation feasibility for your property before you commit.
What does "reverse cycle" and "inverter" actually mean?
Reverse cycle means the unit both cools and heats — the same system keeps you cool in a Brisbane February and takes the chill off a July morning, and it’s the cheapest form of electric heating available. Inverter technology varies compressor speed instead of switching fully on and off, so the system holds temperature more precisely, runs much more quietly and typically uses 30–50% less energy than an older fixed-speed unit.
Which brands do you install and repair?
We install, service and repair Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Fujitsu, Panasonic, ActronAir, LG, Samsung, Carrier and Toshiba. Our online store stocks Toshiba Seiya Classic, Fujitsu Comfort and Lifestyle, Mitsubishi Electric AP and Samsung Bedarra wall split systems, plus genuine spare parts.
Can I supply my own unit and have you install it?
Yes, we do supply-and-install as well as install-only. Note that with an install-only job, the manufacturer’s warranty on the equipment stays between you and the retailer — we warrant only our installation workmanship. We’ll always tell you up front if a customer-supplied unit isn’t suitable for the location.
3. Installation
How long does an installation take?
A standard back-to-back wall split system installation usually takes 3–5 hours. Longer pipe runs, second-storey or roof-mounted work, multi-head systems and ducted installations take a full day or more. We confirm the expected duration when we book.
What is a "standard installation" and what costs extra?
A standard installation typically includes back-to-back or short pipe run (up to [X] m), wall bracket or ground mount for the outdoor unit, insulated pipework, drainage to an approved point, connection to a suitable existing power circuit, commissioning, test run and removal of packaging. Common extras: long pipe runs, conduit or trunking on rendered/brick walls, new dedicated circuit or switchboard upgrade, crane/scissor lift, roof or high-level mounting, core drilling through concrete, and removal and degassing of an old unit. Every one of these is itemised in your quote before we start.
Do I need council approval or landlord/body corporate permission?
Council approval is not usually required for a standard residential split system, but if you’re in a unit, townhouse or heritage-listed property you will almost always need body corporate or landlord approval for the outdoor unit location and any wall penetrations. We can provide a specification sheet and noise data to support your application.
Will the outdoor unit annoy my neighbours?
Modern inverter units are quiet, but Queensland noise regulations still apply and placement matters. We choose a location that respects boundary setbacks, avoids bedroom windows and allows proper airflow, and we can supply the manufacturer’s sound pressure ratings if required.
Do you remove and dispose of my old air conditioner?
Yes. We legally recover and dispose of refrigerant gas under ARCtick requirements and recycle the metal. Removal and disposal is quoted as a line item — never left to you.
4. Servicing & maintenance
How often should my air conditioner be serviced?
Once a year for a typical Brisbane home, and every six months for coastal properties, homes with pets, allergy sufferers, or units running most of the year. Commercial systems generally need quarterly or six-monthly servicing to meet warranty and hygiene expectations. Late winter or early spring is the ideal time — before the first hot week.
What's included in a service?
A full service covers filter clean or replacement, indoor and outdoor coil clean, barrel fan and blower inspection, drain line and tray flush, refrigerant pressure and temperature check, electrical connections and current draw test, thermostat and controller check, condensate pump test where fitted, and a written report of anything that needs attention.
Is a chemical clean different from a normal service?
Yes. A standard service cleans accessible surfaces. A deep chemical clean partially dismantles the indoor unit and treats the coil, barrel fan and drain tray with specialised cleaners to remove built-up mould and biofilm — the usual cause of a musty smell and reduced airflow. Brisbane’s humidity makes mould growth common, so we often recommend a chemical clean every 2–3 years.
Can I clean it myself?
You can and should rinse the indoor filters every 4–8 weeks in warm water and let them dry fully, and keep plants and clutter clear of the outdoor unit. Anything involving the coil, electrical components, refrigerant or dismantling the unit should be left to a licensed technician — DIY refrigerant work is illegal in Australia and can void your warranty.
5. Repairs & faults
My unit is running but not cooling. What's wrong?
The most common causes are a blocked filter or coil, low refrigerant from a leak, a faulty capacitor or contactor, a failed fan motor, a control board (PCB) fault or a tripped safety. We diagnose the actual cause rather than simply “topping up the gas” — a system that has lost refrigerant has a leak, and refilling without repairing it is a short-term fix.
Water is dripping from the indoor unit — is that urgent?
It should be attended promptly. It’s usually a blocked or incorrectly graded drain line, a dirty coil causing ice-melt overflow, or a failed condensate pump. Turn the unit off to limit water damage to plaster and flooring and book a service.
What does the error code on my remote mean?
Error codes are brand-specific and point to a subsystem — sensor, communication, inverter, pressure or fan fault. Send us a photo of the code with your model number and we’ll tell you what it likely means and what the repair involves before we attend.
Do you use genuine spare parts?
Yes. We source genuine PCBs, fan motors, sensors, capacitors and compressors for Fujitsu, Mitsubishi Electric, Samsung, Toshiba and other major brands — many available directly from our online parts store. Genuine parts protect your manufacturer warranty and are the only way to guarantee correct control-board programming.
Repair or replace — how do I decide?
As a guide, replace rather than repair if the system is over 10–12 years old, the compressor or main PCB has failed, the repair cost exceeds roughly 40–50% of a new system, or the unit uses an obsolete refrigerant. We give you both numbers and let you decide — with the efficiency savings of a new inverter system factored in.
6. Running costs & energy
How much does it cost to run?
A 2.5 kW inverter split system in a Brisbane bedroom typically costs a few cents to around 25 cents per hour to run in cooling mode, depending on your tariff, setpoint and insulation. Every degree you lower the thermostat below about 24°C adds roughly 5–10% to running cost, so 24–25°C in summer and 18–20°C in winter is the sweet spot.
Are there rebates or financing available?
Queensland and federal incentives change regularly and eligibility depends on your circumstances. Ask us at quote stage and we’ll tell you what’s currently available.
7. Payments, warranty & bookings
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept EFTPOS, credit card, bank transfer and [payment plan provider]. All prices shown include GST and you receive a tax invoice for every job.
What warranty do I get?
Equipment carries the manufacturer’s warranty (typically 5 years parts and labour on major residential brands, subject to their terms), and we back our own installation and repair workmanship for 6 months. Full details are on our Warranty & Service Terms page. These warranties are in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
Can I book online?
Yes — use Book a Service to choose your service type, appliance type, preferred date and time window, and upload a photo of the unit or the fault. You’ll receive an email or SMS confirmation, and we’ll contact you if we need more detail before attending.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Just let us know at least [24] hours before your appointment and we’ll reschedule at no charge. Cancellation and no-show fees, if any, are set out in our Terms of Use.
